Implementation
At Burley Gate CE Primary School we have designed our curriculum to ensure each child ‘knows more and remembers more’. Our carefully sequenced curriculum includes progression documents that ensures each child builds knowledge every year and is exposed to challenging key vocabulary.
We explore ‘key individuals’ (past and present) to celebrate human achievement in every subject. We are passionate that our children feel inspired by the topics we teach.
We introduce ‘key questions’ to start at topic and we encouraged our children to keep asking questions to deepen their understanding of the world around them.
We want to prepare our children for the diverse world we live in by giving them plenty of trips, assemblies and visitors throughout their school life. We hope the wider curriculum opportunities will motivate and inspire them.
Our skilled subject leaders regularly monitor their subjects to check we are delivering the best curriculum for our children, the best evidence is always from listening to our children!
We have a culture at our school that rapidly supports children not achieving the expected level in a subject. Through regular teacher assessment, we quickly identify ‘at risk’ children and put a plan of action together.
We have been focusing on improving reading fluency at Burley Gate and our new phonics programme is already having the desired impact. For this year, our focus will continue to make sure all our children can read fluently by the time they leave us in Year 6.
All staff at Burley Gate CE Primary School have high expectations for all children and continue to develop the curriculum to reflect changes in our ever changing world.
